Description: Lieutenant Szczerba was stabbed to death while responding to a call involving a suspect breaking into a vehicle. Upon arriving at the scene, Lieutenant Szczerba engaged in a brief foot pursuit with the suspect. In the process of apprehending the suspect, Lieutenant Szczerba was stabbed numerous times. Lieutenant Szczerba was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect wounded two other officers before he was taken into custody.
