Description: Patrolman Simmons was shot as he conducted a routine traffic stop. Unbeknownst to Patrolman Simmons, the occupants of the vehicle had committed a recent burglary. A struggled ensued and Patrolman Simmons shot and wounded one of the suspects. The second then shot Patrolman Simmons. Both suspects fled the scene. Patrolman Simmons was transported to the hospital where he died. His assailant was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
