Description: Officer Shaw and Officer Vernon Wilt were transporting a suspect to the county jail when they stopped at an accident scene. Officer Wilt stepped out of the patrol car to investigate. Suddenly, an approaching Shell Oil truck slammed into the back of the patrol car, crashing the car 75 feet into a telephone pole. Officer Shaw and the suspect were trapped inside and unable to free themselves when the vehicle exploded, killing both men. The truck driver was charged with vehicular manslaughter.
