Description: Officer Simmons succumbed to injuries sustained three years earlier when his patrol car was rammed by a vehicle being pursued by other officers. Officer Simmons and his partner were attempting to locate the fleeing vehicle and join the pursuit when the suspect vehicle slammed into the rear of their patrol car. Officer Simmons was in the passengers seat and received severe brain injuries. Officer Simmons' partner received non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.
