Description: Officer Schmidt was shot and killed after she and her partner responded to a disturbance call. While questioning the 60-year-old female suspect, the suspect requested to use the restroom. Officer Schmidt escorted the suspect to the public restroom where the suspect produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Officer Schmidt in the abdomen below her vest. Officer Schmidt's partner returned fire and fatally wounded the suspect. Officer Schmidt was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center where she died four hours later.
