Description: Officer Scanlon was working a traffic detail when he stopped a suspect for a minor traffic violation. During the stop Officer Scanlon removed the suspect from the vehicle to frisk him. The suspect attempted to flee and was tackled by Officer Scanlon. During the struggle the suspect stabbed Officer Scanlon several times in the neck and back. Officer Scanlon, defending himself, shot the suspect in the chest. The suspect stole the patrol car, and Officer Scanlon's service weapon. Officer Scanlon was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
