Description: Deputy Sloan was shot while protecting a prisoner from being lynched by an angry mob. The mob had battered down the door in an attempt to get to the prisoner. The deputies, fearing for their lives, fired into the crowd. Several people returned fire and Deputy Sloan was fatally shot. The leaders of the mob were arrested and charged with murder.
