Description: Lieutenant Schlatterer was shot while investigating a murder that had occurred earlier that day. Lieutenant Schlatterer was told that the suspect was hiding in the basement of a house. As Lieutenant Schlatterer entered the house, he was shot in the chest at point-blank range with a 16-guage shotgun. His assailant was killed and two officers were wounded in an exchange of gunfire. A second suspect was arrested.
