Description: City Marshal Smithwick was at home asleep when his wife was awakened by prowlers. Marshal Smithwick shot at the suspects who fled with the marshal in pursuit. The suspects took refuge in another residence and returned fire, killing Marshal Smithwick. Two suspects were arrested.
