Description: Trooper Smith approached a vehicle parked on the side of the road where two men were sleeping inside. Trooper Smith woke one of the men who responded by firing several shots, killing Trooper Smith. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. The death sentence was later commuted to life in prison.
