Description: Constable Stepp and Deputy W. H. Cain attempted to arrest two suspects who had robbed a man of his wallet and watch. The first suspect surrendered peacefully but the second man pulled a pistol and shot Constable Stepp twice in the abdomen and once in the arm. Constable Stepp returned fire, shooting his assailant in the heart, killing him. Constable Stepp died the following day at the hospital.
