Description: Officer Sauselein and Firefighter Scott Maness were engulfed in flames when they responded to a report of a wildfire in the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida. As they worked together on a bulldozer plowing fire lines, the wind suddenly changed direction. They were unable to outrun the fire and were overcome by the flames. Both were transported to the hospital with severe burns. Scott Maness died later that evening. Officer Sauselein died of his injuries the next day.
