Description: Corporal Severns succumbed to gunshot wounds he received two days earlier during an attempted armed robbery. Corporal Severns was off-duty when two juvenile suspects tried to rob him and a friend outside of the local Boy Scout office in South Bend. Although wounded, Corporal Severns was able to return fire and injure one of the suspects. Corporal Severns, who was shot in the head and abdomen, died two days later in a local hospital.
