Description: Deputized Constable Shields was shot when he and two fellow officers were searching for a suspect regarding the theft of a pistol. The officers, armed with a warrant, went to the residence and ordered the suspect to come out. The suspect responded by firing through the door, striking Deputy Shields in the chest and stomach. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with the other officers. Deputy Shields was transported to the hospital where he died the next day. Deputy Shields was deputized by Constable C.A. Jolly and was the brother of Rural Police Officer Ellis Shields.
