Description: Correctional Officer Syms was shot with his own gun while supervising a group of 10 inmates at the Retrieve convict camp. Officer Syms was attacked by an inmate who gained control of the officer's handgun and shot him. Officer Syms died at the scene. His assailant was convicted of murder and executed.
