Description: Marshal Smith and Constable Charles Fenwick were summoned to arrest a deranged man who was in the process of unlawfully destroying a building. The officers demanded that the man cease and desist. The man refused, drew a revolver on the officers and fired. Marshal Smith was struck in the chest and died instantly. Constable Fenwick hit the suspect on the head with the butt of his gun and arrested him.
