Description: On January 19, 2017, Police Officer Silva began a mandatory overtime,10 hour patrol assignment. Calls for service that day included traffic stops, assist with the arrest of a felony suspect and investigation of narcotic sales in a high crime neighborhood. Officer Silva also responded to a disturbance call involving a mentally ill male with a known history of violent behavior. Officer Silver confronted the verbally aggressive man to deescalate the situation. Officer Silva complained of heartburn after completing his shift. The next day, Officer Silva began his shift and was dispatched to meet a property theft victim when he collapsed. Officer Silva was transported to the hospital where he died of a heart attack.
