Description: Chief of Police Smith was beaten with his own club as he attempted to place an intoxicated suspect in jail. The suspect attacked Chief Smith, took his baton and struck him over the head. Chief Smith lapsed into a coma and died of a fractured skull four days later. The suspect was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to seven years hard labor.
