Description: Correctional Officer Smith was injured on October 9, 2012 at the Harnett Correctional Institution, when the food cart that he was pushing tipped and fell over against his leg. The laceration required medical attention and he was transported to the hospital. Five days later he was readmitted to the hospital due to swelling of the wound. Officer Smith died of renal failure due to septic shock on December 1, 2012.
