Description: Deputy Sheriff Smith and Special Deputy John Brooks were shot as they attempted to serve a warrant for robbery to three suspects. Deputy Brooks died at the scene. Deputy Smith was shot as he read the warrant and he returned fire, killing his assailant. Deputy Smith received medical attention and the bullet was removed but he died of his injuries two days later. One suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to 119 years in prison.
