Description: Deputy U.S. Marshal Stalcup was destroying liquor stills with another officer in Cherokee County, North Carolina, when he was ambushed and shot by two moonshiners. Deputy Stalcup returned fire and killed one of the suspects. The second suspect fled. Deputy Stalcup died at the scene.
