Description: Sergeant Steil succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained five days earlier while searching for a carjacking suspect. Officers were engaged in a foot pursuit of the suspect when the suspect opened fire with a sawed-off shotgun. Sergeant Steil was struck in his shoulder and was transported to the hospital. While in the hospital, Sergeant Steil developed a blood clot and died on September 17, 2016.
