Description: Guard Stephens was struck over the head with a pick by an inmate on the chain gang. The inmate, who was serving a life sentence for murder, stole money and two pistols from Guard Stephens and fled. Guard Stephens was transported to the hospital where he died. The inmate was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
