Description: On May 12, 1881, Constable Stone was shot when he pursued a suspect arrested for assault who had escaped from his custody. Constable Stone followed the suspect to his residence and was shot in the chest by the father of the suspect when he arrived at the scene. Constable Stone remained bedridden until his death three weeks later on June 5th. His assailant was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
