Description: Sheriff Swafford was ambushed and shot as he sat in his vehicle in front of the store that he owned. His wife, Eulah, was inside the store and was also shot. Sheriff Swafford was talking to two of his deputies when the shots were fired from across the street from behind a billboard. Sheriff Swafford and his wife were transported to the hospital where Sheriff Swafford died the next day. Mrs. Swafford survived her injuries. Two suspects fled the scene and were not apprehended.
