Description: On August 30, 1951, Officers Stevenson and H.L. Stephenson issued a warning to a 17-year-old regarding a hunting knife. Later that evening, as the officers were on patrol, the suspect opened fire on their patrol car, striking both officers. Officer Stevenson was shot in the face, neck and arm. Officer Stevenson medically retired in 1956 on total disability.He suffered a stroke relating to injuries sustained in the shooting and died five years later. Officer Stephenson survived his injuries.
