Description: Deputy Shofner was shot and killed by an escaped convict who was attempting to steal his car. Deputy Shofner was off duty and picking up his wife, Novita, at the railroad office where she worked when the escaped convict spotted his car and demanded the keys at gunpoint. Deputy Shofner managed to draw his weapon and fire a shot at the convict before he was killed with a bullet to the head. Deputy Shofner died the next morning and the killer was soon captured during a massive manhunt.
