Description: Patrolman Sparks was feloniously injured while attempting to escort a suspect back to headquarters. Patrolman Sparks was struck over the head which caused him to fall. The suspect escaped. Patrolman Sparks mental condition deteriorated until his death five days later. This incident took place during a riot that began on the Fourth of July when the Dead Rabbits and other Irish gangs from the Five Points banded together to do battle with their arch rivals, the Bowery Boys.
