Description: Deputy Styers was a member of a posse attempting a raid on a whiskey still operation. Another posse of lawmen from a neighboring county had also set up surveillance. Both groups, unaware that they were there for the same purpose, opened fire, believing the other to be the wanted suspects. Deputy Styers was shot and died of his injuries three days later. Deputy Ike Curlin was shot in the hip and ankle but survived. (Friendly fire)
