Description: Special Policeman Smith and Officer C. Rowland were shot by a burglar as they patrolled their beat. The officers came upon a suspect lurking behind a grocery store. When the officers attempted to question the suspect, he pulled a gun and fired. Officer Smith was transported to the hospital where he died. Officer Rowland survived his injuries. The suspect was not apprehended.
