Description: Sheriff Shirey and U.S. Deputy Marshal J.A. Henderson were investigating the site of an illegal moonshine distillery. The lawmen were in the process of disposing of the liquor when they were fired upon. Sheriff Shirey was shot in the chest and died a few minutes later. Two men were captured and tried in a court of law. One man received a term of life imprisonment and the other was hung from the gallows.
