Description: Officer Sigmon was shot by a suspect during a bank robbery. Two suspects robbed the Savings and Loan on MacArthur Blvd., NW, and fled on foot. Officers Sigmon and Swartz gave chase. As the suspects ran up a steep flight of stairs, the officers engaged them in a gunfight. Officer Sigmon wounded one suspect before the other suspect, Lawrence Caldwell, shot him once in the heart with a .45 caliber handgun. Officer Sigmon died on the scene. His assailant was found guilty and incacerated for 33 years until his release in 2003.
