Description: Officer Shapiro and his partner Officer Bill Salupo responded to a call of a suspect shooting at passing cars on Fairhill Road. The suspect was spotted running behind some bushes in the vicinity of the Baldwin Reservoir. When the officers arrived, a shot rang out. Officer Shapiro was mortally wounded in the neck by a shotgun blast. A massive search was undertaken and the suspect was arrested. The suspect was found to be legally insane and was confined to a state mental institution.
