Description: Deputy Sheriff Tephford was shot and killed while conducting a vehicle stop. Deputy Tephford stopped two suspicious vehicles and contacted dispatch for back-up and to run the plates. When back-up arrived one of the suspects exited his vehicle, produced a weapon and shot both deputies. Deputy Tephford died an hour later at a local hospital. The other deputy received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
