Description: Ohio State Trooper Joseph Hershey was in pursuit of a suspect he had attempted to stop for a traffic violation. Patrolman Taylor and four Massillon police officers joined the pursuit. After wrecking his car, the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers. The suspect then fled on foot, armed with a Czechoslovakian CZ-762x25 semiautomatic military handgun, made to penetrate body armor. Patrolman Taylor was fatally shot by the suspect through the buttocks by a bullet that traveled up through his body, damaging vital organs. The suspect was shot and killed by Trooper Hershey and fellow Massillon police officers.
