Description: On October 21, 1940, Turnkey Tuggle was shot with his own gun by an inmate who was attempting to escape the facility. The incident occurred when Turnkey Tuggle brought the inmate from his cell to meet a visitor. The inmate grabbed the gun from Turnkey Tuggle's holster and shot him twice. Turnkey Tuggle was transported to the hospital where he died eight days later. The inmate fled the facility but was captured by a law enforcement posse.
