Description: Deputy Thomas was shot in the chest and abdomen as he attempted to arrest a suspect wanted for killing his employer. Deputy Thomas underwent several surgeries to have the metal fragments removed with only partial success. Failing health forced him to retire from the department. Three years later, one of the fragments caused an infection and internal bleeding that led to his death.
