Description: Chief Tarpy and three officers went to the residence of a burglary suspect to make an arrest. The officers were admitted into the home by the suspect who was then asked to turn over his gun. The suspect responded by firing wildly, striking Chief Tarpy in the abdomen. Chief Tarpy returned fire, killing the assailant. Chief Tarpy was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries nine days later.
