Description: Sheriff Tafoya was shot as he attempted to disarm a desperado who was angry regarding the outcome of a gambling bet. The suspect left the saloon threatening retaliation and the barkeeper called for Sheriff Tafoya. Sheriff Tafoya was waiting when the desperado returned. The saloon owner offered to refund the money but the desperado pulled his gun. As Sheriff Tafoya attempted to gain control of the weapon, the desperado shot him in the chest and head. The desperado and his three brothers were killed by a posse.
