Description: On August 26, 1899, Constable Tobias was attacked and beaten as he searched for two horse thieves who had escaped from the prison farm. The suspects stole Constable Tobias’ gun and fled the scene. Constable Tobias died of his injuries a week later on September 2, 1899.
