Description: Patrolman Thalmann succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained three days earlier while conducting an investigatory stop of a suspicious suspect. While speaking to the man, who had been riding a bicycle in the rain, Patrolman Thalmann called for backup. He continued to speak with the suspect when the man suddenly fled on foot, produced a weapon and then shot Patrolman Thalmann. A second officer was also shot by the suspect, but survived. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with responding officers.
