Description: Detectives Truesdale and Emil Newberg were shot by a mentally deranged man wielding a German Luger. Pawtucket Police had surrounded the house and kept the suspect under surveillance for several hours before they entered. Detective Truesdale was shot in the chest and died on the operating table. Detective Newberg was shot in the abdomen and was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspect was arrested after a gunbattle with police.
