Description: Marshal Tilghman was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest a man for being intoxicated in public. Marshal Tilghman had observed the man staggering in the street with a gun in his hand. Marshal Tilghman was able to disarm the suspect and began to escort him to jail. Unaware to the Marshal that the suspect had another weapon concealed in his pants, he shot Marshal Tilghman three times, at close range, killing him instantly.
