Description: Patrolman Verkler and Corporal Roberts were shot and killed after they responded to a call where shots had been fired. After convincing the suspect to exit his residence, the suspect opened fire on both officers. Corporal Roberts was fatally shot in the head and died instantly. Patrolman Verkler was seriously wounded in the chest. He was transported to a local hospital where he died two hours later during surgery.
