Description: Deputy Sheriff Van Meter was killed in an automobile crash while riding as a passenger in a marked patrol car that was struck by a pickup truck. The pickup truck had failed to yield the right of way. The deputy who was driving the patrol car was critically injured in the crash but survived. Deputy Van Meter died at the scene.
