Description: Deputy U.S. Marshal Vanstory died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. On January 27, 1936, Deputy Marshal Vanstory was returning to Greensboro, NC, from duties in the eastern part of the district when his car skidded on the icy pavement. At first, his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but an x-ray revealed that he suffered a fractured vertebrae. Pneumonia set in, and Deputy Marshal Vanstory died nearly a month after the accident.
