Description: Detective II Vigiano was among the seventy law enforcement officers from a total of seven federal, state, and local agencies who were killed when terrorist hijackers crashed two of four hijacked planes into the New York City World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001. Detective Vigiano was attempting to evacuate and rescue people who were trapped in the building. The New York City Police Department lost twenty-three officers in this incident. Detective Vigiano was a member of the Emergency Services Unit, Truck 2 and was posthumously awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor.
