Description: Officer Vaird responded to a radio call regarding a silent alarm at a bank. A gunman inside the bank was hiding behind the front door and fired on Officer Vaird as she entered. Officer Vaird, struck in the chest, was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead an hour later. The gunman and two accomplices fled the scene but were later arrested. Officer Vaird's assailant was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death. The other two suspects were each convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
