Description: Officer Van Meter was on patrol when he walked into the Nunn-Bush Shoe Store around 4:40pm. Officer Van Meter noticed the manager of the store, Leo C. Castle, tied up on the floor. The suspect was leaving the store as Van Meter entered and when ordered to hold up his hands, the suspect shot Van Meter in the face at close range. Officer Van Meter was pronounced dead 30 min later at General Hospital.
