Description: Sergeant Verrett walked into an armed robbery in progress at the Mighty Duke Lounge. Two men were holding a woman hostage. As Sergeant Verrett tried to talk them into freeing the lady, they shot him instead. The sergeant was rushed to Charity hospital where he died two days later.The hostage survived. The killers were captured and sent to prison.
